Summer Discovery Program
Since 1997, the Department of Education has been pleased to
offer the Summer Discovery Program to tribal youth in grades
K-8. The five-week summer program offers academic and
cultural activities aimed at building leadership skills and
creating positive team experiences.
Activities our children have been a part of in previous years
include making pottery, Tewa language instruction, science and
math skill building, traditional farming and cooking, and
introductions to ballet and opera.
In addition to using community members to teach many of the
classes, the program incorporates teen-age counselors as role
models and mentors for the younger children.
If you would like to enroll your child in the Summer Discovery
Program, apply as a teenage counselor, or volunteer to teach a
session, please contact the Department of Education at
852-3477. |
