Don’t Teach Me My Culture,
Use My Culture To Teach Me!

Ohkay Owingeh means "Place of Strong People" and here at the Ohkay Owingeh Community School (OOCS) we work hard to build strong students by providing a culturally relevant curriculum for grades K-8.  In fact, at the Ohkay Owingeh Community School all of our students have the opportunity to study their native Tewa language.

Our school is accredited by the State of New Mexico Department of Education and the North Central Association. In 2001, a 5-year, 21st Century Grant was received.  This grant created a Pueblo consortium that includes San Juan, San Felipe, Isleta and Acoma Pueblos.  The $750,000 grant expands on the educational services already being provided by each Pueblo through their prospective schools.

We are really proud of our school, our students, and our teachers.  If you would like to learn more about our school or our innovative new programs, please give us a call at 505-852-2154.

Principal - Dr. Rudolph Bentz
